CTRL Space expands into Queenstown
Interior architecture studio CTRL Space has announced it will open a Queenstown studio in mid-2026, expanding its trans-Tasman footprint into one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing tourism and development regions, driven by rising visitation and significant investment across the South Island.
CTRL Space, known for its human-centric design approach, operates studios in Auckland and Brisbane and is behind many of Australasia’s leading venues. Recent high-profile work includes Bravo in Auckland’s Cracker Bay, a multi-layered hospitality destination delivered in collaboration with Winton, developer and owner of Ayrburn in Arrowtown. The move into Queenstown reflects both the scale of development underway and a growing pipeline of hotel, hospitality and mixed-use projects reshaping the region.
The new studio will be led by Senior Project Designer Summer Bishop, who says she’s excited to be representing CTRL Space in the South. “This is an incredible opportunity, and I’m looking forward to being at the centre of the growth in Queenstown at such a pivotal time for the region and the industry,” she says.
Founder Chris Stevens says the decision to establish a local presence is about being closer to both projects and collaborators, at a time when significant investment is flowing into the South Island. “We’re already having a number of conversations in the market, and having a presence on the ground allows us to engage earlier in the process — from masterplanning through to delivery. There’s a strong appetite for design that creates a clear point of difference while supporting commercial outcomes. We have the experience and capability to deliver on that, and now we’ll have the presence to match.”
