Matangireia Yates‑Francis is an architectural designer whose work centres on Māori innovation, papakāinga regeneration and the relationship between architecture and the environment. As Research + Innovation Director at ŌRUA, he investigates how mātauranga Māori can inform sustainable spatial systems and future‑focused community design. Raised within the world of traditional Māori arts, he brings a deeply formed understanding of mātauranga Māori that permeates his approach to architecture and design. His practice is grounded in close collaboration with iwi and whānau, translating kōrero, whakapapa and tikanga into meaningful and culturally resonant architectural forms.
