Want to save the Amazon, African and what’s left of other tropical rainforests? These seminars will ofer up some options for good choices. American Hardwoods, Australian Hardwoods as well as some NZ grown Modifed Timber options that are gaining attention around the world. Speakers are coming from the USA, Canada and Australia to tell us about the supply and credentials of their options. As well, we will have some local Exotic and Indigenous Hardwoods explained.

Designing with American hardwoods - a truly sustainable option. A look at the resource, the supply chain, the range of species and grades, with many examples of American hardwoods in application. Focus is on white oak, red oak, ash, hard maple, tulipwood, walnut and cherry

Speaker: Criswell Davis

President of Mighty Oaks Consulting in Dayton, Ohio USA, is an internationally recognized American hardwood expert, speaker and consultant. He has worked with some of the largest architecture and design firms in the world, helping to guide the process of specifying and procuring American hardwoods for projects in the US and overseas. He has been in the American hardwood industry for over 26 years at all levels of the indurstry, including more than 17 years representing a large American sawmill and kiln drying facility.

Australian Hardwood a PEFC supply chain. A review of the resource, supply chain and the nature of the timbers. Focus is on Victorian Ash and Jarrah.

Speaker: Dave Gover

Dave Gover is the Operations Manager for Australian Sustainable Hardwoods’ sawmill in Heyfield, Victoria. He is also an enthusiast of the great outdoors, and has an interest in forest sustainability from a commercial and recreational perspective.

New Zealand’s FSC hardwood option. The story of Silver Beech (Maple and Cherry options).

Speaker: Bernie Lagan

Managing director, Lindsay & Dixon. Bernie has a wealth of knowledge about the New Zealand sawmilling and timber industries.

New Zealand’s exotic hardwood options. Focus is on Saligna and Pilularis. Two local options for a moderately durable to durable hardwood supply.

Speaker: Chris Wifen

Joint MD at Timspec. 25 years of timber importing and merchandising.

Accoya a modifed timber option. The FSC, durable and stable option.

Speaker: Laurens Notenboom

Laurens Notenboom, Sales Manager Consultant Asia & Middle East. Laurens is an expert in the modifcation of timbers - particularly acetylation of timbers.

Thermo modifed Radiata. Another modifed timber option – this one from NZ and FSC.

Speakers: Aaron Hawke & Don Johnson

Aaron has been involved in the Production and Sales of Radiata Pine based products both in New Zealand and Australia for the past 17 years. The past 5 years Aaron has led the development of Thermal Modifcation at Pan Pac Forest Products Ltd from concept to commercialisation.
Don has a long career in sawmilling and marketing. Initially involved with the New Zealand and Australian markets. Specialising in market and product development with a recent focus on the Asian markets he has been involved with many trade missions as well as industry groups aimed at increasing the exports from New Zealand.
