FFWD016: Jeremy Smith
The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning’s annual guest lecture series, Fast Forward, aims to foster debate, discussion and development within the disciplines of architecture, urban planning and urban design. There will be six events taking place from July to October 2016.
Wednesday 3 August:
Jeremy Smith from Irving Smith Architects, Nelson
Is Being Finished Finished?
Engineering Lecture Theatre 439, 20 Symonds Street, 6.30pm.
After graduating with Victoria University’s Centennial Medal, Jeremy worked with Peter Elliott, then Malcolm Walker, before establishing Irving Smith Architects in Nelson. His design work has received NZIA National awards, NZ Timber Design awards, and was Highly Commended at last year’s World Architecture Festival.
Smith presents projects from Irving Smith Architects’ Soft Context: Soft Architecture exhibition from the 2015 Prague International Architecture Festival, along with live projects, both theoretical and real, in New Zealand’s unfinished landscapes. The Alexandra Tent House, Gisborne’s offSET Shed House, and Mapua Park Structures each look to understand and participate with existing landscapes rather than generate new contexts. And with ‘soft context’ comes the question, is being finished finished?
All lectures start at 6.30pm, are free and open to the public.

The series is recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Architects as an accredited professional development activity, with each lecture attended earning 10 CPD points.
