FFWD016: Bjarne Mastenbroek

The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning’s annual guest lecture series, Fast Forward, aims to foster debate, discussion and development within the disciplines of architecture, urban planning and urban design. There will be six events taking place from July to October 2016.

DIG IT!

Bjarne Mastenbroek, director and founding architect of SeARCH, has been practicing architecture in the Netherlands and abroad for over 20 years. His practice is characterised by looking at each project as a landscape rather than just a structure through a continuous exploration into the intimate and reciprocal relationship between architecture and site.

In this talk, Mastenbroek introduces DIG IT! a research project conducted by his architectural firm SeARCH (Stedenbouw en ARCHitectuur). It explores the role and responsibility of contemporary architecture with its surroundings, either in nature or urban nature through grounded architecture.

Although this can literally take place within the earth itself, we will explore the relationship with sometimes hidden and complex urban networks and infrastructures. DIG IT! culminates in a comprehensive publication, an Analysis, Atlas or Encyclopedia about the unlimited possibilities of well-connected architecture within its surroundings. 

All lectures start at 6.30pm, are free and open to the public.

The series is recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Architects as an accredited professional development activity, with each lecture attended earning 10 CPD points.
