Architect Lecture: Kas Oosterhuis
In 1989, architect Kas Oosterhuis, together with visual artist Ilona Lénárd, founded the ONL [Oosterhuis_Lénárd] design studio in Rotterdam. ONL is a multidisciplinary practice where architects, artists and progammers collaborate on the construction of large-scale sculptural buildings.
Recognised as a global leader in the use of digital design technology, Oosterhuis lectures around the world and has taught at numerous universities. Widely published internationally, his work has garnered numerous awards, including the Autodesk BIM Experience Award, Architectural Record Award, National Steel Award, Dutch Design Award for Public Space, and two nominations for the Mies van der Rohe Award.
Since 2000 Oosterhuis has served as professor of digital design methods at Delft Technical University and is currently leading a staff of 20 researchers at the independent Hyperbody research group. His teaching and research is in the areas of interactive architecture, real time behaviour of buildings and environments, living building concepts, collaborative design, file to factory production and parametric design. He also oversees the recently opened protoSPACE fabrication laboratory, and was co-founder of the Attila Foundation, which pursues the electronic fusion of art and architecture.
Oosterhuis will be at Victoria University on Tuesday 12 November with the lecture beginning at 6pm and at the University of Auckland on Wednesday 13 November with the lecture beginning at 6.30pm. Oosterhuis will be lecturing on the recent works of ONL including the CET in Budapest, Hungary and the Liwa Tower in Abu Dhabi.
