ADNZ CPD Series: Koh Kitayama
A recipient of more than 30 prestigious awards, Koh Kitayama is one of the world’s most talented architects. His most recognised awards include the Japan Institute of Architecture Award in 2002 for his spectacular Katta Public General Hospital and the Annual Architectural Design Commendation in 2010 for his work on Yutenji Apartments.
In 2010 Koh had the honour of being chosen as the Commissioner for the Japan Pavilion at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition – the Venice Biennale.
Speaking on design and the inspiration for some of his most impressive works, Koh will be visiting five locations around New Zealand including Auckland (31/3), Tauranga (1/4), Wellington (2/4), Queenstown (3/4) and Christchurch (4/4).
Joining Koh will be Dr Andrew Barrie. Andrew is a New Zealand-born architectural critic and designer formerly based in Tokyo. After completing doctoral studies in Japan, Andrew worked as a project architect in the office of Toyo Ito. On returning to NZ, he worked at Cheshire Architects in Auckland. Andrew is a regular contributor to architecture and design journals and has won numerous awards in both NZ and Japan.
