The PrefabNZ Geometry at Play event is a great opportunity to see a unique community project and residential build which showcase engineered timber and panel technologies in Christchurch.
The event will start with an opportunity to see the innovative origami-like Mount Pleasant Community Centre. Its wave-like folded surfaces, fabricated from triangular laminated veneer lumber billets, have created strong and stable surfaces to form the entire building structure.
The site visit will look specifically at the use of engineered timber, after which key project players will talk about all aspects of this project – design, engineering, environmental strategies, modular construction, prototyping, BIM modelling, direct to manufacture documentation.
Later in the afternoon is a visit to Welhaus’ Alpine Abode – the epitomy of sustainable and affordable residential design. Achieving a 6+ Homestar rating, it was specifically designed using engineered timber panels for sections with a wide rather than long stepped footprint.
Manufactured off-site, the Alpine Abode was assembled and watertight on-site within an impressive two days. A panel discussion will allow participants to understand about the materials, technologies and innovations which made this build possible.

5–6pm: Drinks
