Fringe Benefits?
The Architecture NZ and Resene “Fringe Benefits?” event takes place at 7.45am on Friday 23 September.
Apartment buildings are popping up across Auckland’s City Fringe. What impacts and benefits will this intensification bring to the city?
A range of built environment professionals will discuss new and future apartment developments on the edges of the city, the history of apartment living in Auckland, and the effects this will have on the wider urban environment.
After a light breakfast at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Visitors’ Centre, we will move to the new Fearon Hay-designed Bishop Selwyn Chapel, where architect Jeff Fearon will welcome everyone to the building.
The following speakers will each give a 10 minute talk:
- Bill McKay – historian, critic and author
- Patrick Reynolds – photographer and Transport Blog commentator
- Pip Cheshire – NZIA Gold Medal-winning architect of Cheshire Architects
- Jennifer Hanson – architect and director at A Studio Architects
- Graham Crust – architect from Beca Architects.
Afterwards, a panel discussion, moderated by Justine Harvey, editor of Architecture New Zealand, will invite views and questions from the floor.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the ‘Donate a Pipe’ fund towards the new organ in the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
