FESTA 2013

Inner-city Christchurch will once again play host to the crowds as the annual Festival of Transitional Architecture returns to temporarily transform the city’s former red zone urban environment over the Labour Day holiday weekend (25-28 October).

This is a free, public event that engages with the city of Christchurch by exploring urban regeneration through large scale collaborative projects and urban interventions. It is the first and only festival of its kind in the world.

Sneak Peek at Festa 2013:
Canterbury Tales
This year’s main event is a processional performance of the carnivalesque Canterbury Tales, led by Free Theatre Christchurch. This large-scale urban installation and performance is a follow up to 2012’s Luxcity. It traces a specific path through the centre and presents a unique way to experience the festival and the city.

Agropolis
An exploration of urban agriculture in Christchurch, Agropolis will grow food right in the centre of the city and involves composting organic waste from inner city hospitality businesses as well as the ground preparation through to the cooking and distribution of the produce.

The Arcades Project
You may have noticed The Arcades Project on the former Crowne Plaza site, the beautiful timber arches that continue the line of Victoria St through to Victoria Square. For Labour Weekend an artist will intervene within The Arcades Project to transform its nature as a ‘gateway’ into the city. Check out our website for more information.
