Te Wharewaka by Architecture+, Wellington.

Stuart Gardyne is a director at the Wellington-based design practice Architecture+. Following his architectural studies in Wellington, Stuart worked with Structon Group from 1981 to 1992, becoming a director in 1987. In 1994, he formed Architecture+ with Anne Salmond, Allan Wright and Stephen Poulopoulos. Stuart is responsible for the firm’s design direction, and has been involved with numerous civic, commercial, cultural,interior and residential projects that have been the recipient of numerous local, regional and national awards.

The firm’s best known projects include the adaptive reuse and later extension of the Wellington City Gallery (1993 & 2009), the Pataka gallery complex in Porirua (1998), Conservation House, a Five Green Star-rated refurbishment of an inner city office block and disused cinema complex (2006), and the NZIA New Zealand Architecture Award-winning Te Wharewaka on Wellington’s waterfront (2011). A fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, Stuart has served as an NZIA Councillor and Awards Convenor.
