Architecture of Power and Light

Architecture of Power and Light is a weekend residential workshop for exploring design techniques to create spaces that empower the spirit. It will draw on contemporary and ancient techniques of developing space. The workshop will take place at Gudhara Holistic Sanctuary in the NSW Southern Highlands.

Consciousness will be used as a constructive tool in applying feeling, meaning and energy to spaces to satisfy the spoken and unspoken requirements within the design brief.

The workshop addresses the role of the architect in fulfilling the spiritual component of the brief, which encompasses client, community and environmental needs and aspirations. It will incorporate ways to expand vision in the design process.

Topics covered: preparation of consciousness for undertaking design, conception of the design idea, light as a tool for manifesting form, yoga connection in the design process, and imbuing space with feeling tones.

The weekend will incorporate presentations, group discussions, practical design exercises and meditation. There will also be plenty of time for informal exchanges with presenters and other participants.

Facilitators of the event will be Greg O’Donnell (B. Arch [Hons]) and David Rapaport (B. Arch, B. Sc). O’Donnell is director of Architecture of Spirit, and over the last twenty-five years has researched and developed the relationship between Eastern spirituality and architectural design. David Rapaport is director of Heartwood Consultants, a firm specializing in ecologically sensitive alterations and additions to urban dwellings.

The workshop will commence at 9.30 am on Saturday 26 November and conclude at 2 pm on Sunday 27 November. Accommodation is in twin share rooms or single rooms with ensuite. Meals are organic vegetarian cuisine with morning and afternoon teas included. For registration information email Gudhara.
