2011 International Design Alliance Congress

The 2011 International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress, themed “Design at the Edges,” will be held from 24 to 26 October 2011 at the Taipei International Convention Center in Taiwan. This is the first time that an Asian country will host a joint convention of the world’s three largest design organizations – the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the International Federation of Interior Architectural/Designers (IFI).

The IDA Congress is the primary event for dialogue between designers and non-design stakeholders conducted in a summit format. The congress includes input from design practices and exploration of design’s applications in various fields such as science, technology, government, business and non-governmental humanitarian organizations.

The IDA leadership committee selected “Design at the Edges” as the theme of the 2011 IDA Congress. This theme has three applications:

1. The edge between design practices and other fields having a stake in design, including science, technology, government, business and non-governmental humanitarian organizations.

2. The edge between design disciplines, especially communication, and interior and industrial design.

3. “Cutting edge” works and ideas in design and in other fields: radically new, controversial and experimental concepts that push the boundaries of the design discipline.

According to MOEA officials, more than 3,000 local and foreign design professionals are expected to attend the congress and an estimated four million people will visit the design exhibitions at the event.
