Vale: Megan Wraight

Influential Wellington landscape architect Megan Wraight will be honoured at a private funeral today (Thursday 3 September). Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions around the country, the family has chosen to keep the funeral small and private, Landscape Architecture Aotearoa (LAA) reports.

Megan passed away earlier this week after a spirited battle with cancer. She has had a marked impact on public and private space across the country including the Wellington Waterfront redevelopment, Waitomo Caves, Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter and Christchurch Coastal Pathway. And, she spent her life championing the development of public spaces for the betterment of communities.

She was an award-winning landscape architect, receiving national and international accolades including being honoured in the 2006 International Federation of Landscape Architects awards and being the first landscape architect to receive the Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate Award in 2013.

Close friend and Wraight +Associates colleague Nicole Thompson says they hope to hold a memorial service for Megan when gathering restrictions are lifted, says LAA.
