The New Zealand Institute of Building Winstone Wallboards Awards for 2011 recognise excellence of individuals or teams engaged in the entire building industry and professions in the disciplines of design, construction, installation, teaching and building research.

Held at the Pullman on Friday 26 August, the Awards were well attended by building industry professionals.

The Supreme Award went to John Overton (Hawkins Construction Auckland) and John Sofo (ASC Architects Auckland) for Papamoa College.

Earlier in the evening the ‘Two Johnnies’ had won the Steel Construction New Zealand Sustainability Award sending them through as candidates for the Supreme award. The judges commented that they have clearly had a profound impact through their championing of a revolutionary learning system, getting buy-in from the local community, empowering through local labour sourcing and connecting students to project based learning in an awe inspiring building. 

Sustainable management practices were used both in the construction of the school and in its ongoing operation and maintenance.
