We feature a selection of images from various events at this year’s inaugural Festival of Architecture, which ran 7–17 September.
This year’s Festival of Architecture saw the scope and ambition of Architecture Week widened, with events and activities designed to celebrate architecture – and its importance to the life of New Zealand’s towns and cities – scheduled for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as other regional centres.
The 2017 programme comprised a range of mostly free activities: speakers, tours, exhibitions (including Future Islands, New Zealand’s 2016 exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale), open studios, design competitions, political debates and workshops.
It was a highly successful, engaging 10 days that showcased some of the best architecture and design New Zealand has to offer and focused on important issues such as affordable housing, planning and better urban design.
