At their first real-life get together since the Level 4 New Zealand-wide lockdown, Objectspace asked its patrons for support. The Ponsonby-based gallery has been showcasing Kiwi artists and designers since its inception in 2017 and, like many organisations, it was not immune to the challenging economic effects of COVID-19.

The Objectspace plinth, which sits under its iconic white-cube structure, has always served as a place for creators to explore, make and showase. After a 30 per cent cut to Objectspace’s programming budget due to COVID-19, the organisation has launched a crowd-funding campaign on Boosted to raise $40,000 to help fund the next three projects set to take over the plinth over the next year. At the time of writing, just one week after the launch, over 48 per cent of the goal has been raised already.

Director Kim Patton says, “Objectspace is the only public gallery in New Zealand dedicated to the fields of architecture, design and craft. We exist to account for the cultural value and importance these disciplines play in all our lives. Every dollar raised goes to supporting commissioned projects for Objectspace by architects, designers and artists.”
