Auckland-based gallery Objectspace, which has long been committed to showcasing craft, design and architecture has announced architecture firm Architectus as their “strategic design partner”.

The gallery says that with the firm’s support, they will develop one major design exhibition annually exploring the ways architecture and design matter in Aotearoa, beginning with Toro Whakaara: Responses to our built environment, which is set to open in October 2021 at both Objectspace in Auckland and the Centre of Contemporary Art in Christchurch. Toro Whakaara will explore the power and politics of place with new work from 10 architects, designers and artists.

Kim Patton, director of Objectspace, says, “The support from Architectus of Objectspace comes at a time of growing ambition for the gallery as it serves the fields of craft, design and architecture. It is heartening for this partnership to come to fruition at a critical time for the arts.”

The gallery reports that Architectus is similarly delighted to form this partnership and increase pathways for discussion around architecture and its role in culture.
