The London-based Institution of Structural Engineers has announced the shortlist for the upcoming Structural Awards 2013 and two New Zealand projects have joined 43 other international projects across 12 categories.

The Sir Paul Reeves Building at AUT University in Auckland is one of five projects to be shortlisted in the Education or Healthcare Structures category. Also shortlisted in this category are: Botanical Garden Hothouse in Demark; Chetham’s School of Music; Halley VI Antarctic Research Station and University of Exeter Forum.

The Carterton Events Centre has been shortlisted in two categories - Arts or Entertainment Structures and Community or Residential Structures. It is joined by Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum; First Direct Arena; Gardens by the Bay and Southend Pier Head; and Bishop Edward King Chapel, Ripon College; Jasper Place Library; Lakeshore and Tsingtao Pearl Visitor Centre respectively.

Previous winners include the Supreme Court of New Zealand, New Zealand ICT Innovation Institute at the University of Canterbury and the London 2012 Velodrome. Winners and commended projects will be announced at the Structural Awards ceremony on 15 November in London.

Established in 1968, the awards recognises the contribution made by structural designers to the built environment and showcases projects that lead the industry’s development.
