New Chairperson for Warren and Mahoney
Warren and Mahoney’s Auckland Studio Principal Andrew Tu’inukuafe has been elected Chair of the firm’s Board.
An award-winning workplace design specialist, Tu’inukuafe joined Warren and Mahoney in 2015 as an Interiors Principal, where he was appointed to head the firm’s Auckland Studio three years later.
A member of the Warren and Mahoney Board since 2021, Tu’inukuafe’s prior experience includes the role of design director at Creative Spaces, where he was responsible for projects such as the refurbishment of the Auckland Council’s Albert Street workplace. He has also served as the convenor of Spatial Judges for the New Zealand Design Institute’s Best Awards, and as a member of the Spatial Design Advisory Board at the Auckland University of Technology.
Warren and Mahoney Managing Director John Coop says Tu’inukuafe’s appointment is part of the Australiasian practice’s ongoing expansion. “Andrew brings a wealth of talent, insight and expertise. His clear strategic vision for the future and his ability to build relationships will aid Warren and Mahoney as we continue to grow, innovate, and build a strong, sustainable future.”
Tu’inukuafe says he is honoured by the appointment, which reflects the increasing diversity of Warren and Mahoney, as well as the wider architectural community. “As a passionate architect, New Zealander and Tongan, becoming the Chair of Warren and Mahoney is a huge privilege. The firm is in a fantastic position, and I look forward to working even more closely with the leadership team, the Board and all of our employees to ensure we continue to provide an exceptional service to our clients by delivering extraordinary outcomes. I am also passionate about how we can drive positive impact through the profession, embracing diversity and environmental sustainability within our firm, but also in the design process to create places and spaces that best serve all of our communities.”
Outgoing Chair Graeme Finlay will remain on the firm’s Board, and says he intends to further the firm’s emphasis on sustainability. “My tenure as Chair of Warren and Mahoney has been a career highlight and to see the growth of the firm, our people and our projects over this period brings immense satisfaction. Now handing over to Andrew, the firm couldn’t be in safer hands, and I look forward to the next step in the evolution of the business. While I will remain on the Board, I am also excited to have more time to contribute in different ways – in particular, driving the sustainability agenda, which must become an urgent focus for our industry to help create a better outlook for people, our cities and the environment.”
Tu’inukafe will officially take up the role of Chair on the 1st of April, 2022.
