New architectural Master’s degree at AUT
In 2026, AUT will begin offering the Master of Architectural Design Management (MADM), the first degree of its kind in New Zealand to focus on pre-contract, design integration in construction.
Project sponsor Professor John Tookey says the programme will develop leadership, stakeholder management, innovation and scope management skills, differentiating itself from traditional Construction Management degrees. “Designed for completion in one year, the MADM is embedded within the industry-connected department, AUT’s School of Future Environments.”
Tookey says the MADM aligns with strategic goals emphasising sustainability in construction and urban development. “The programme will teach students to balance People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership aspirations globally, preparing them to address industry needs and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs),” he says. “The curriculum also addresses the specific needs of Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand.”
The course will offer 50 places in 2026 and Tookey says AUT is expecting a mix of both domestic and international students.
