Ahead of the sold-out Aotearoa Festival of Architecture event, the judging panel for this year's making competition has been announced as Matt Liggins, Kim Paton and Chris Barton.

Model Citizens 3.0 is the latest version of the original, highly creative event first held in 2019, where teams from across the design spectrum compete to win the coveted title and trophy first won by Athfield Architects.

This year’s Model Citizens 3.0 event will see 12 teams from architecture and design firms gather together for a friendly, fun-filled object-making competition.

Judging the night’s creations, will be Matt Liggins (Director of Matt Liggins Studio, Professional Teaching Fellow at University of Auckland, and installation artist), Kim Paton (Director, Objectspace), and Chris Barton (Editor of Architecture NZ, WAF 2023 guest judge, and Professional Teaching Fellow at University of Auckland).

The event challenges you to put your creativity and design skills to the test. Teams of six will be required to create a yet-to-be-revealed object with yet-to-be-revealed materials, and you will need to create this object from a yet-to-be-revealed brief… all will be revealed on the night.

The winning team will take home the prestigious Model Citizens trophy – currently held by a team from Architecture+Women NZ — along with ultimate bragging rights.

Delicious drinks and nibbles will be provided by our generous hosts Kada and event partners Resene and Laminex.

Where: Kada Showroom, Level 2/165 The Strand, Parnell, Auckland
When: Wednesday 20 September 2023
Time: 5pm–8.30pm
Cost: $300 per team — all proceeds will be donated to Te Tāpui Atawhai Auckland City Mission
Hospitality: Food and drinks are supplied

The event is now fully subscribed, however if you would like your team to be added to our reserves bench email [email protected].
