Gaggenau has joined the Interior Awards sponsor family for the 2026 programme. Founded in 1683 in Germany’s Black Forest, Gaggenau began as a hammer and nail forge established by Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden. We spoke to the team about changes they’re seeing in the industry, what inspires them and being such a valued partner to the industry.

The Interior Awards programme began in 2011. What would you say is one of the biggest changes you’ve seen in the industry over the past 15 years?

Patrick Reid: We’ve seen a pivotal shift, where design goes beyond aesthetics to genuinely enhance everyday living.

Dave Schon: There’s an appreciation for seamless integration – flush installations, panel-ready options and appliances that recede into the kitchen’s architectural fabric. Elevated, quiet luxury.

Alex Sauer: We’ve seen the expansion of bespoke and distinctive textures and finishes, sophisticated materials and trend-setting aesthetics, all empowering a new era of local design.

What really inspires you – in terms of creativity, innovation and/or people?

Dave Schon: Continuous innovation – driven by understanding how people actually live – truly ignites my passion.

Patrick Reid: My inspiration stems from those who constantly ask, “How can we elevate this?” This commitment to innovation streamlines complexities without sacrificing quality.

Alex Sauer: The essence of design is understanding each distinct client. We listen intently, comprehending their culinary practices and aspirations for their home.

What makes Gaggenau a valuable partner to the industry?

Dave Schon: Gaggenau stands as a long-term partner to the design industry, collaborating from a project’s inception. Our design philosophy centres on creating appliances that not only integrate flawlessly into contemporary living environments but also draw deep inspiration from professional cooking and culinary heritage. By masterfully blending timeless elegance with craftsmanship, we’ve created appliances that transcend utility to become true icons.
