Three projects across two categories from the Auckland-based team have been named finalists in this year's Eat Drink Design awards, including Interior Awards finalist Hotel Ponsonby.

The Eat Drink Design Awards celebrate hospitality venues across Australia and New Zealand, and the 2021 shortlist has recently been revealed, including three projects from Aotearoa’s own CTRL Space.

Also a finalist in this year’s Interior Awards, the Hotel Ponsonby has been shortlisted in the Best Bar Design category. Two more Auckland projects from the firm were also named as finalists in the Best Restaurant Design category: Euro and Siso.

Winners of each category will be announced on 5 November, and each winner will receive a $1500AUD prize. The 2021 jury includes Sarah Cosentino (co-director of Studio Esteta), Anthony Gill (founder of Anthony Gill Architects), Katie McCormack (restaurateur of Congress, Future Future and Lagotto), Matt Shea (editor-at-large of Broadsheet Brisbane) and Cassie Hansen (editor of Artichoke).

The jury will also select one project from Australia and New Zealand to be inducted into the Eat Drink Design Awards hall of fame. ArchitectureAU reports that hall-of-famers must “have achieved a level of cultural significance as well as demonstrating longevity in an industry often categorized as transient”.
