A father-son collaboration has taken out top honours of the Jasmax video competition, ‘My City’. Team SoFunSoWhat’s entry A2B takes a contemporary look at how we use our cities today.

Combining strong visual, audio and graphic animation to create a well-considered and rounded short clip, Jason Dobbs successfully captures how our cities are seen through the eyes of young adults; on this occasion, with his son Cato.

“We had good fun moving around the city, capturing whatever we thought would work. I just told Cato to ‘do what he’d normally do’ and the tricks came as part of it,” Dobbs said.

The judging panel commented: “A2B depicts a generational shift in how we interact with our cities. Captured from the perspective of a child’s play, the video successfully integrates graphic overlay with an engaging soundtrack, to assert an instant connection between the audience and audio/visual; an achievement in this short timeframe. In its honesty in defining architecture and this common ‘urban adaptive re-use’, the video is a candid, yet considerate, take on how our cities are interacted with daily.”
