Interior Awards 2020: Meet Inzide
The Interior Awards wouldn’t be possible without companies that are dedicated to good design. We asked Inzide – who is not only a sponsor of the 2020 awards but have been supporting the programme since its inception – about their favourite podcasts, books, designs and more.
What is your all-time favourite book?
Michael Long (Auckland and Northland account manager): The Hundred Year Old Man by Jonas Jonasson. Allan Karlsson is in an old peoples home waiting for a party he dosen’t want to begin. His one-hundredth to be to be precise. The mayor will be there, the press will be there but as it turns out, Allan will not. Escaping (in his slippers) through his bedroom window, into the flower bed, Allan makes his getaway. And so begins his picaresque and unlikely journey involving criminals, several murders, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent police. As his escapades unfold Allans earlier life is revealed. A life in which – remarkably – he played a key role behind the scenes in some of the momentous events of the twentieth century. It’s a great yarn, humorous, sprinkled with events for the history lovers that appear reasonably believable.
What is your top podcast recommendation?
Fiona Stewart (Auckland account manager): I like listening to podcasts, like Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations, when I’m driving around in my car. Oprah talks to some incredible people, and their stories inspire me towards being a happier, kinder, more compassionate person.
What is one album that you can’t stop listening to?
Jarrod Langstone (Operations director): Queens of the Stone Age’s Era Vulgaris. It’s old school rock unbeaten by anyone else – although Metallica is just as bloody clever. I have been to several concerts, can’t beat the raw voice of Josh Homme. My all-time favourite song is ‘Make it Wit Chu’.
Name one designer who is inspiring you right now?
Mike Bryan (Auckland account manager and hospitality development manager): For a New Zealand designer, I love the Maher shoe brand out of Tauranga. For an overseas designer, I appreciate the funky designs and have a few pairs from shoe designer Nobrand out of Portugal. Both designers push the boundaries in shoe design.
