Interior Awards 2020: Meet ECC
The Interior Awards wouldn’t be possible without companies that are dedicated to good design. The Thorburn family – the faces behind ECC – have been involved with the Interior Awards since 2015. We caught up with Richard, Mike and Andrew to find out what’s been inspiring them lately.
What is your all-time favourite book?
Mike Thorburn: I recently read Red Notice by Bill Browder. It’s based on a true story of corruption, dirty politics and murder in Russia – told by one of Putin’s most wanted. It had me gripped.
What is your top podcast recommendation?
Richard Thorburn: The Joe Rogan Experience hosted by American comedian, actor, sports commentator, martial artist and television host, Joe Rogan. It’s sometimes controversial, always entertaining.
What is one album that you can’t stop listening to?
Andrew Thorburn: Six60, all of their music. Their ability to sell out Western Springs shows how their relaxed vibes are becoming embedded in Kiwi culture.
Name one designer who is inspiring you right now?
Richard Thorburn: Belgian architect and designer Vincent Van Duysen inspires me. He has a great eye for scale and proportion and brings materials, textures and light to the fore to create peaceful spaces.
