The Australasian Student Architecture Congress (ASAC) will hold its biennial events in Christchurch from 1-5 October 2019. This year’s theme is Dissent, which explores the themes of protest, activism, resistance, using one’s voice and much more.

Event organisers say, “Architecture is political. We were taught this on our first day. The issues that face the world are ones that also face architecture and those who practice it. The brief for this congress is broad, to reflect the breadth of those issues, and the task we’ve set is broad to reflect their potential solutions. We all have a responsibility to do something.”

The ASAC is a fully student-led organisation of architecture’s young minds, gathering for debate, inspiration and action. The group hosted the People congress in 2015 in Melbourne, looking at how architecture can be more human-centric and the Agency congress in 2017 in Sydney, pushing the limits of ownership.

This year’s lineup of speakers include local and international professionals including American architects Keefer Dunn and Peggy Deamer and New Zealand movers and shakers like Jade Kake and Rau Hoskins.
