BNZ refurbishment project: Elevating spaces with wool carpet tiles
Partner content:The BNZ branch refurbishment project is built on New Zealand-grown wool, using renewable fibre to create inviting, high-performing retail spaces.
The BNZ refurbishment project represents a significant collaboration aimed at enhancing customer experience across approximately 200 locations nationwide. This extensive project demonstrates a significant investment to creating functional spaces that prioritize customer comfort and operational efficiency. The project involves the installation of bespoke wool carpet tiles, reflecting a commitment to New Zealand-made renewable fibre, innovation, and support for local industries.
Custom pattern and colour choice
Led by Bella McMahon of Warren and Mahoney, the design of the project has focused on creating modern retail spaces that resonate with BNZ’s brand identity while providing inviting and engaging environments for customers.
The project features a unique custom pattern and colour palette developed by GH Commercial specifically for BNZ. This thoughtful design ensures a cohesive aesthetic across multiple branches while allowing for individual character tailored to the communities served by each location.
Modular design
The modular nature of the wool carpet tiles allows for practical benefits, enabling easy replacement of damaged tiles without the need for a complete overhaul. This feature enhances the longevity of the flooring solution and simplifies maintenance, making it ideal for high-traffic retail environments.
Material choice: The advantages of wool
Wool has been selected as the primary material for the carpet tiles due to its numerous advantages, including:
- Natural fibre: As a renewable and biodegradable material, wool supports environmentally responsible practices, aligning with BNZ’s sustainability goals.
- Stain resistance: Wool’s natural fibers provide inherent stain resistance, simplifying maintenance and ensuring long-lasting appearance.
- Acoustic performance: The sound-absorbing qualities of wool make for quieter environments within the branches.
- Thermal insulation: Wool aids in regulating indoor temperatures, enhancing energy efficiency in the space.
Support for the local economy
This initiative bolsters the local economy by sourcing wool from New Zealand farms, contributing to regional agriculture while promoting the use of a natural and renewable fibre. The wool is expertly processed into yarn at Godfrey Hirst facilities in Oamaru and Lower Hutt, ensuring maximum local production. Additionally, the carpet tiles are manufactured at Godfrey Hirst’s Melbourne plant in Australia, further strengthening regional collaboration.
