Art, Architecture & Ale with Assa Abloy
Partner Event: Congratulations to RTA Studio on taking out top spot at the ‘Assa Abloy Art, Architecture & Ale’ brew making event. There was some stiff competition but their Ginger Pale Ale and label were judged to have both the flavour and brand story that any good craft beer should tell.
How do you get so many busy architectural practices to take the time to come along to an event that has little to do with architecture? Well as anyone working in a creative field knows, sometimes the best inspiration comes from taking a break. Even better, a break with a beer.
Assa Abloy took the opportunity to offer this very break and combine it with a generous handful of creativity, a bucket load of collaboration and a liberal smattering of competitiveness.
Invited practices were treated to a craft beer masterclass by James Cooper of Lakeman Brewing, followed by getting their hands dirty and making their own beer. Then to finish, come up with a brand story and label design for their beer.
Fast forward two weeks and these practices met again to taste their creations and see how they fared with the judges.
Lakeman’s James Cooper said “The flavours from all the beers tasted were surprisingly good, and the designs were clever with a strong story to support them. However, RTA Studio and their Ginger Pale Ale had the edge by adding ginger and chilli to the beer it made for a tasty surprise. I really hope they enjoy making more beer on the WilliamsWarn Brew Kit they won”
The event truly highlighted the enthusiasm for craft beer right now and that creative collaboration with a beer can certainly be a lot of fun. And finally, architects really are competitive!
Be sure to keep an eye out later in the year for more Assa Abloy events like the introduction of their revolutionary Openings Studio™ BIM software, and with any luck an ‘Assa Abloy Art, Architecture & Ale’ event in Wellington – arguably the home of NZ craft beer.
