AILA’s golden jubilee celebrations

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) in 2016, the institute is seeking a curator to conceptualise and oversee a year-long program of activities to celebrate landscape architecture.

Intended as the ‘Year of Landscape Architecture,’ AILA’s anniversary aims to celebrate the role landscape architecture past, present and future, as well as elevate the profile of landscape architects, promoting their achievements and honouring those who have made significant contributions.

The celebration’s curator or curatorial team will be charged with creating an overarching theme and a series of events. While it is aimed primarily at the public, the program should also engage with governments, students, and the landscape architecture fraternity around a framework of activities, campaigns and policy platforms. The program should culminate in the focal point of the year, the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Congress to be held in Canberra running in coordination with the 2016 Festival of Landscape Architecture. The role will also oversee the appointment of a creative director for festival which will also need to respond the anniversary theme.

Submissions should include a brief proposal outlining the concept, overview, suggested opportunities and events as well as a one-page CV for each team member. Selections will be made based on the relevance and appeal of anniversary concept and theme, power of theme and program to engage the broader community and its ability to raise profile and value of landscape architecture.
