Stevens Lawson Architects’ Blyth Performing Arts Centre has taken out the coveted New Zealand Architecture Medal at the 2015 New Zealand Architecture Awards. The awards evening was held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on the evening of 30 October.

The jury for the 2015 awards was headed by Auckland architect Pete Bossley, alongside Nelson architect Jeremy Smith, Wellington architect Sharon Jansen, and Queensland architect Damien Eckersley.

For the first time in 2015, New Zealand Architecture Award-winning buildings in the categories of housing, commercial and public architecture were considered for Signature Awards named for three influential New Zealand architects – Sir Miles Warren, and both the late John Scott and Sir Ian Athfield.

The premier individual honour, the Gold Medal for career achievement, was conferred on Stuart Gardyne, director at Wellington studio architecture +. The jury commented, “Stuart has become an architectural leader as well as an excellent designer, and the profession he so admirably represents has benefited enormously from his collegiality, intelligence and integrity.”
